Hi Fabian and comrades,
Hello there Fabian. My colleagues (Onyango and Grace) have planned to meet tomorrow afternoon and we will send a more detailed email concerning your suggestions tomorrow evening. Concerning the cost for transportation, a 12 seater van will cost about 100 - 150 dollars per day and a 25 seater van will cost about 200 dollars per day. If we hire this van/s then they can be used to pick people from the airport at no extra cost apart from fuelling which is about 15 dollars per trip to the airport.
That's it for now. More tomorrow.
Cheers,
John Bwak

guesthouse sounds very good indeed. It is something we can defintely work
with in my opinion. I have a small point to add only for the budget. Is it
possible that you calculate roughly the costs of local transport to get
from there to the WSF and to the airport, so we could include that as
well?
Concerning the hardware question let me just give some thoughts...
If we had a seperate Media centre inside the WSF (possibly equipped with
computers already as it was the case in Bamako, where we co-operated with
the Youth Camp Media Centre who also came up for the bulk of the costs) we
propably wouldn't need a big computer set-up in the guesthouse.
And as it was in Bamako, the guesthouse/headquarters was packed with
private computers anyway.
Yet we didn;t do any workshops in advance of the WSF there. Surely its
worth talking to WSF organizers about it as there is some experience of
joint conduct from previous WSFs. If WSF could provide us with a
mediacentre like in previous cases, but maybe also a week or two before
the wsf acutually starts, we could offer to provide advance workshop and
training for local media activists in radio and web grassroots journalism.
That would save us from high costs in purchasing computer equipement,
given that we already talking about spending a few thousend Dollars on the
radio equipement.
In any case thanks for great work on the ground
best for now
