[Imc-africa] IMC-ORG feature proposal : The WSF, Opposition to the WEF and a new space

Arising from an earlier imc-feature request to copy the UK-imc feature to imc-org, I set up a wiki for the imc-africa collective to work on.

  The WSF, Opposition to the WEF and a new space      From 20th till 25th of January 2007 the World Social Forum (WSF) took place in Nairobi, Kenya. 
   
  It is the seventh Forum which coincides in opposition to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos Switzerland.
   
  Up to a 100 000 participants were  reported at the WSF though criticism of exclusivity because of high entrance fees was raised from the local population. (The impact of the WSF on the people of Kibera: "a Failure" | Kibera fails poor). This lead to the local population storming the entrance and the overpriced catering: What happened in Nairobi .
   
  Sarah Choukah has written that the WSF "failed to address in an articulate way one of the main global issues: today’s ongoing wars in the Middle  East and Central Asia".
   
  For this WSF IMCista´s tried to "create a new space for global civil society to work in and out of from, both during the WSF and beyond", as part of an ambitious Global Listening Nodes project. The International Radio Show between Naoirobi, Dublin and Barcelona about housing happened with only limited success due to the Kenyan Indymedia Radio station being robbed by armed gunmen. But perhaps a new Anti-Capitalist space has been opened up?   after some discussion about whether to include the robbery stuff or not i have included it above in an edited way which i think is necessary as it did affect the global node project we were working on..

  who is Sarah Choukah, is she supposed to be some well known political head like tariq ali, or chomsky? as that is how it comes through in highlighting her name as in the original uk feaure, 
   
  excuse my ignorance if she is well known, all i found was  that she writes mostly about music

  i look forward to your views, i have heard very little from africa-imc
   
  also, as far as i know there is no audio yet for us who were not there to listen to. i have only heard the recordings i made over phone with macharia and the imc team. if there is material from download can you email me or edit the wiki to include this vital info
