Hi Jay,
Thanks for offering help with the evaluation and documentation of the
project.
For the accounting Andy from Prometheus, Danielle from Urbana IMC and
me are in a process of sorting out the finance. As you can imagine, it
is a huge pile of bills and recits and exl. tables, But we will get
there. I agree that we should try and put it all into one calculation
and we are actually working on that right now. I can also say that we
will surely have some left-overs, the money from Umverteilen wasn't all
spent mainly because of the 5 African delegates who didn't travel for
the Visa problem.
This leaves the group to think of ways to spent it (which Umverteilen
obviously needs to agree with). Ideas that were floating around were to
fund a follow up meeting of Kenyan or East African Actvists in the near
future or to allow people in Kenya IMC to work on a swahili translation
for the global IMC that than could then also be used for the rest of
East Africa.
More ideas anyone?.
For the doc/evaluation
I was about to sent out to the list a report that I drafted for
Umverteilen.
It gives my perspective of things, but I tryed to include some of the
main points that were already discussed on the ground and on the
mailing list. It would be good to continue this discussion and maybe
come to one overall report that is consensual and can go to the
different funding institutions and to others who are intrested.
Beyond this I am starting to work on an evaluation these days for an
alternative media research project in the UK
I introduced this project to the list before
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-africa/2006-December/1212-
yb.html
I hope to finish this by the end of march and I will make it available
around that time.
Furthermore, I really hope to get together a little video until the end
of march, but I am very unsure about whether I make it in this time
frame. It will be there at some point, that's for sure.
Generally, after we spent so much energy in this project, I think we
also should do the best we can to learn from it as a collective and
make our learning advances available to others who might want to do
similar things in the future. After all, what we are doing in
convergences like the one we just had in Nairobi is nothing less than
to prepare and practice for a global public sphere, a global civil
society that in some future might allow humans to run this planet
democratically and peacefully. And how nice would that be....
In an admittedly self-serving sort of analysis I think this is a very
good way to spent energy and time, possibly among the best.
This is why before all the reporting and evaluating I would like to
thank everybody involved for sharing this.
Cheers
Fabian
