hi,
great to see things moving forward!
i have been trying to get information about possibilities to post, how
to access the imc kenya website and the like.
yesterday i had a long irc discussion with toya from brasil who
obviously has a lot of experience with wsf coverage and the stress
involved in prepraring for such an event. when we discussed the kenya
imc website it was our impression that at the moment there isn't a
stable local group - or am i wrong? i got this impression because there
weren't really reactions to questions by several people about how the
site could be used.
(if you can: please join #africa and/or #communication on
irc.indymedia.org -> http://chat.indymedia.org in any browser!)
i did research the status of imc kenya (i had the impression some people
were unsure about this): there was an application process two years ago,
and and a welcome message:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/imc-process/2005-February/0225-ak.html
- so there shouldn't be doubt.
nevertheless toya pointed out that in the history of indymedia there
were not so few cases of indymedia websites that were quickly set up,
used during and shortly after a big international event and then died a
slow death because there either was no local collective or the group
focussed on other things than a website.
another option we could look at would be a subsection of the global
site, e.g. www.indymedia.org/wsf
this has some advantages like:
- it's very easy to implement,
- the site doesn't need extra work such as defining editorial policy,
contact data and other static information,
- it provides a very practical feature for translations
i definitely don't want to override any ideas or intention of the kenya
group, i'm just trying to understand what may be a good solution for the
next weeks. and would like to help prepare as long as i'm still able to
while enjoying stable internet access and less stress ;).
i will ask the global page editorial group to add the wsf as upcoming
event, and will add to 'upcoming coverage' where we post whenever this
gets decided.
