Looking back through the new-imc list archives for February 2005
(http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/new-imc/2005-February/date.html),
there seems to have been some confusion around the Kenya IMC's
new-imc process. They did seem to fill out all the information but
there may not have been the same kind of thorough communication with
and about their collective as generally happens with new-imcs. For
example, it seems as if they went through the process without having
a working public e-mail list, which is not unheard of but
unusual. After they were welcomed to the network they never really
seemed to get going, and I can't find if there was any follow-up to
ask them if they needed more help.

I think if Kenya.indymedia.org didn't already exist, and if there
wasn't a renewed collective in Nairobi that iniatiated most of the
the local logistics for this convergence, we probably would have
suggested using something like indymedia.org/wsf. Since the domain
is already there, and since there are currently active indymedia
organizers who live in Nairobi, I think using Kenya.indymedia.org in
this instance makes sense.

Absolutely. There has been talk on the imc-africa list about
prioritizing just that, making sure the Kenya IMC learns how to
manage its own site, post features and communicate on its own with
the network after the World Social Forum. I certainly hope that
works. The problem until today was that the tech team in Nairobi,
currently composed of both visitors who have come for the WSF and
Kenyans who are part of the IMC, didn't have access to the site to
use at a teaching tool.
