[Imc-africa] Nigeria IMC and new-imc

Hi everyone,

Over the last few weeks I've been having conversations with Kola
off-list about the Nigeria IMC and the process of getting it to be an
"official" part of the Indymedia network. I've been involved in the
new-imc working group since it started, so I gave him the rundown of
how an aspiring IMC group joins the network. I'm going to send some
of the conversations along in another e-mail so you can see what
we've been talking about.

The basic crux seems to be that there is a group of people in
Nigeria, most of whom who work with Kola in an association of
journalists, who have looked at the Indymedia Principles and have
decided they want to move forth with forming an IMC. In the other
e-mail you'll see how this played out. Basically, I told Kola that
becoming part of indymedia is pretty hard work and that a local IMC
has to be committed to being open, transparently organized, diverse
and solid enough to withstand all the storms an IMC will no doubt face.

We decided that having too many off-list conversations wouldn't be
good, so I want to invite anyone from imc-africa who wants to help
the Nigeria IMC to become part of our conversations. I'd also like
to have some of them on this list too, if people don't mind, and if
they don't get too cumbersome. I'm just a guy who lives in the U.S.
and has been to Africa a few times, so my experience with organizing
in Africa pales in comparison to many of yours.

This is exciting! Thanks, Kola, for being great at communicating,
both with me and with your group in Nigeria.
cheers,
Jay
