Dear Comrades,
This is just to say a very big 'thank you!' for all the support that you have given us during this tragic times of our beloved sister Grace's demise. Your words of encouragement and offers to help meant a lot to all of us.
We must now continue with the vital task of building Indymedia in Kenya and in Africa. In this regard, we will now proceed with contacting you both individually and collectively as we seek to advance the diverse media and community initiatives over here. Find below some of these updates:
- Equator FM, Maseno University: I was today in a meeting with James Oranga, a lecturer from Maseno university together with several students from the same institution. James confirmed that they already have a frequency and should be broadcasting very soon. Kenya IMC is a co-manager for this project and we will therefore work very closely with the Maseno university and community. We now look forward to facilitating an exchange of programs between Equator FM and Koch FM.
- Koch FM: In the last meeting that we had with Koch FM almost two months ago, we had agreed that Kenya IMC would facilitate a meeting where an internet acquisition proposal would be drafted. This is still pending and we hope to now have the meeting sometimes next week.
- Some member of Kenya IMC led by Douglas, joined youth from Kangemi in organizing a music bonanza in Kangemi. This was an occasion for youth in this area to showcase their talents and implement 'edutainment' (education and entertainment)
- Grace was quite passionate about children and in her memory, we would like to start a media project that will safeguard the rights of children and enhance their holistic wellbeing. To kickstart this, we would like to prepare a radio program on this issue. More update on this in the coming days.
- Tomorrow, saturday, some members of Indymedia will be going for an open forum for about 300 youth in the Rift Valley province of Kenya. Kenya IMC together with other organizations will be organizing such open forums for youth across Kenya in a project that has been baptised, 'million youth action (MIYA)'
All the best and talk to you soon.
Cheers,
John
