[Imc-africa] Media and peace in Kenya

You will find here an initiative launched by a friend journalist in Kenya. It's about spreading peace messages in the media. It is really necessary as the talks are taking a dangerous direction.

Hi,

Thanks Flo for your kind and quick response. I'm a
member of the media and communication committee of the
Professional and Business Forum for Peace that was set
up soon after fighting started in January.

The forums membership spans the entire spectrum of
professions and businesses under KAM and Kepsa. 
While other professionals – doctors and psychiatrists,
engineers, ICT give help in their areas of expertise,
our role is to generate media messages of peace and
hope and spread the messages in a multimedia way.
Easy to understand media like posters and banners will
be used to pass anti-ethnicity messages. The posters
will be displayed in markets, schools and other social
places in areas that suffer deep ethnic hatred. While
we have made the designs, we need money to print. We 
need about 100 euros. Any help  will be appreciated
Secondly, we plan to stage reggae DJ concerts all over
the country. Reggae is an appropriate genre because of
its messages of peace and love and many Kenya youths
like reggae. We will work with Metro, an all-reggae
station. This planned for when schools that have
managed to open, close. Funds are needed to hire
equipment and provide for the DJs 

Third, together with the Federation of Kenya
Lawyers,we  as officials of the Kenya Union of
Journalists want to reward journalists who have
reported excellently on peace.Fida (http://www.fidakenya.org/) is involved because
when there is war, women and children suffer most.
Fida will give the price money but we will provide the
logistics.
