Hi All,
I hope you are fine wherever you are. Just a
brief update on the situation here in Kenya.
The mediation efforts that were highly touted to
usher in a breakthrouh, have failed. They were
led by Ghanaian President and AU Chairman John
Kuffour but despite hours of meetings that
Kuffour had with Raila Odinga (the opposition
leader who is claiming victory in the
presidential elections) and Mwai Kibaki (the
president), nothing much has worked out. Kofi
Annan is now expected to lead the next round of
mediation. It is still not clear what the
opposition intends to do. You will find more
updates, analytical articles, audio, video and
photos on kenya.indymedia.org
This website is now taking shape thanks to
comrades who are volunteering their time and
expertise. As Steph said in an earlier mail, feel
free to join the list in the link she provided,
particularly if you would like to play a part in
the actual work that is going on.
We have had meetings with the local collective
here and tomorrow I will send you a more detailed
update on what we are doing and what we intend to
do here on the ground and also through the
website.
Asante!
John
