It's trivial in Zope/Plone to do XML-RPC btw. 

Since XML-RPC is built into Zope, all Zope objects are XML-RPC-aware;
all objects have a URL, and have methods that can be called over the
net.

I've used xml-rpc to load csv's into Plone from the command line ...
automatically creating content types.
