A microformat, maybe based around Atom rather than RSS could solve
several of the limitations RSS has for sharing indy data. Some
additional agreed form for an unique article ID, owning collective, it's
status (if something has been hidden for example) etc...

If someone is interested in working on this I certainly am!

Here I'm dubious about it's potential for Indymedia (specifically). It
shares too much information between servers we don't control. While not
maintaining logins on individual machines would be nice it would have to
be thought about /very/ carefully. Logins on individual Indymedia sites
have enough security implications already.
