Interesting perspective you have there John.

FYI, Michael Linton (considered by many as the founder of LETS) has worked
with Eric and others (myself included) on Open Money stuff for some time
now.

There are very big differences between what they are proposing and the
"Money as Debt" system that is the cause of the sub prime stuff (and
Northern Rock stuff here in the UK).

Sub prime debt is just the tip of the iceberg of the "Money as Debt" system.
Privately owned and controlled banks create virtually all the money supply
in the world as compound interest bearing debt - why our economy must grow
to survive and why we're all trapped in debt slavery.

But the whole system is only kept up by our implicit agreement and misplaced
trust. After all, in essence money is just an agreement, between a
community, to use something as a means of exchange.

Currently this is a coerced implicit agreement (we have to pay taxes using
this private bank debt money and no one ever asked us if we wanted to accept
this agreement, but we implicitly do every day by selling our labour for it
and using it for exchange)

Open Money simply seeks to enable anyone (not just private banks ran for
private profit) to form explicit agreements about how to measure and
exchange community defined wealth.
