[Imc-alternatives] local example of activism network software

It's likely a little buggy because I haven't tested it thoroughly
recently (mostly because nobody is using it, so there is little demand
for working on it), but it does do a good demonstration of the
localizing potential for the software.

http://www.activismnetwork.org/philadelphia/

I'm filtering on a zip code and 30 mile radius (for internationalization
- you'd use a longitude/latitude instead of a zip code). So it filters
out events that in other states (except for events that are national in
scope and in the same country, or international events anywhere), and
adds in any local scope events (currently there are no local events
scheduled for Philadelphia). Normally local events would be hidden in
the calendar because local events would overload a national calendar.

For people/groups/schools - if you choose to "browse", then by default
you are browsing people/groups/schools in the 30 mile radius. If you do
a search, by default you are doing a local search. Both of these things
can be changed - as the user can click on "view all results".

Other than that, I'd be glad to expand the customization possibilities.
You can change the logo. You can customize the navigational menu (it is
all defined in an array) without knowing php. You can remove features
(eg. you could get rid of email lists or schools or any other main
object). You can also customize the geography to be an entire state or
country.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about this!

(I wasn't sure if I should send this to imc-alternatives or philly imc -
I figured both groups would be interested).

Aaron
