Hi imc-alternatives,
A little bit ago Josef (hi Josef) gallantly volunteered to set up the
rudiments of an imc-alternatives test site using drupal on either
Magius's or one of his cohort's servers. That sounds like a really
huge task for one person! Josef and I have been in touch a bit about
it and, while he has a "drupal whiz" friend who may be able to help,
I also think we should solicit help from people on this list.
I don't know how to do any drupal programming, though I've come to
the conclusion that it's something I should finally learn, especially
if we're going to use it for this site. Plus, I've found that
soliciting content volunteers is really hard when there's nowhere,
not even a test site, to post content, so it sounds like getting a
test site up is first priority. :))
I figure if there are five or six of us clunking through the basic
installation of a drupal web site, learning as we go, we'll be in a
pretty good position to keep building the site as we go along. Even
if Josef or Josef's friend would be able to set up the very initial
site, having a handful of us sharing the work sounds much more
productive and fun.
So, who out there would be interested in being part of this
endeavor? I'm going to be learning pretty much from scratch, so
there's no need for you to be a programmer already. (I figure
knowing my waqy around a content management system will be a skill
that will help in the future.) Also, this will no doubt proceed
slowly, so you don't have to have a million hours free each
week. I'd love to see at least a half dozen of us working together
from the beginning, which sounds like a large enough number to share
the work.
A main reason we've spoken so favorablly about using drupal is that
it has a good balance of usablity and features, plus there's an
enthusiastic and expanding developer community out there that can
become involved. I think if we work together to set up the
components of our project, then start adding content and encouraging
individuals and organizations to start using it in a beta version,
we'll be able to attract other drupal programmers who want to help
make the site great.
How does that all sound?
Jay
