In the design meeting, we decided to move forward and begin creating
wireframes for the site (a wireframe is a proposed layout, see this
site for examples:
http://totheweb.com/learning_center/website-wire-frame.html).

We invite anyone to participate in the creation of the wireframes. We
are going to begin creating them this week and discuss people's
proposals next Sunday (May 4th) in our design meeting (#alternatives
room of chat.indymedia.org, 9pm EST).

As Jay said, "Check out
https://we.riseup.net/michaelv/step-one-sitemap+7378, or
recent e-mails to this list about the sitemap, for sitemap thoughts
and suggestions. We're going to start with a basic menu consisting
of four items:
-- Main page (traditional indymedia news)
-- Knowledge base
-- Category pages (at first using categories from the old alternatives
feature)
-- Network (at first using simple networking elements from drupal,
then eventually integrating crabgrass.)"

Mid-week, Michael will be posting his ideas about what boxes should be
featured in the wireframes at: https://we.riseup.net/imc-alt. We
envision each basic menu item having its own homepage with links to
its features.

We are striving to create a design that will be effective with a
limited number of features (since every feature we envision will not
be ready for the initial launch), but will be able to accommodate new
features as they are created. We want to create two designs: one that
will conceptualize the initial launch with limited features and one
that is our vision of an "ideal" indymedia (Strype sent an email today
describing the importance of this idealized indymedia design).

We hope that we can start getting design ideas out in the world and
start discussing them and refining our vision of what the Alternatives
site will be. Feel free to participate and share your ideas, even if
you've never created a wireframe before.
