Hello imc-alternatives!
A couple weeks ago we talked about having an Alternatives site code-a-thon
some time over the weekend of December 27-28 to get the site up and running
as much as possible by the end of the year. We have pinned down
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27
as the code-a-thon day, with possible spill-over to SUNDAY, DECEMBER 28 if
there are Drupal coders around who can particpate that day. Our goal is to
get the very basics of our test site at "http://alternativesimc.org" in
shape, with Nick's proposed design in place (http://thunderwhip.com/imc/)
and with the SolutionsWire and features columns fully functional.
Our site is going to be a Drupal site, so this should be managable -- but we
could use all the help and experience we can get. We are going to need
people who are familiar with Drupal help us achieve the our goals for
Saturday, which we'll post below.
We should have at least one IRC check-in before Saturday where people can
update each other on progress and get plugged in to focused projects! Check
out the proposed schedule below. We should hang out in IRC at other times
(the imc-alternatives channel on chat.indymedia.org) so people can get
plugged in during other times, but having set check in points makes it
easier for folks to get involved and gives us a chance to check in with each
other.
Friday, 26th -- 9pm EST -- Preparation for the weekend. Are things in
place? Let's talk about our plans.
Saturday, 27th -- 2pm EST
Saturday, 27th -- 8pm EST
Does this work for everyone?
On Saturday, December 27 we hope to achieve the following goals:
1) help Nick translate his proposed design into Drupal
2) assure SolutionsWire has the following functions:
-- allows moderators to move articles and comments off the newswire to a
"hidden files" area linked from the main page
-- allows moderators to promote SolutionsWire articles to the features
column
-- allows moderators to rethread articles as comments (in case someone
replies on the newswire instead of commenting on the article)
-- allows for different levels of user logins, enabling both anonymous
publishing of articles and comments with no logging of IP addresses and also
an opportunity for users to login and keep track of their articles and
comments (eventually to be used on their profile page as part of the
"networking" function)
3) Extra credit: Implement other features through configuration work if we
have the time and help!
Please e-mail "imc-alternatives at lists.indymedia.org" and/or "
josh.marcus at gmail.com" with questions about any of this. See you on Friday
night on IRC!
