[Imc-alternatives] the eventual "new-imc process"

Hi all,
Though we've been talking about this project for eons, eventually,
when we get our site up and are ready to start rolling (join the
implementation team now and help make it happen soon!) we're going to
have to present ourselves to the indymedia community via some of the
global e-mail lists and formally propose ourselves as a "new
IMC." Basically, we discuss and likely agree to Indymedia's general
principles, then we put information about what we're doing up on the
imc-process and imc-communication e-mail lists and people from
various IMCs around the world get a chance to ask questions. If
there's no opposition to our site, then we become "official."
If you look on any IMC site's cities list almost all of the IMCs are
based in geographic areas, whether cities, states or
countries. There have only been a couple sites that have tried to
orgainze globally according to a topic. There is a BioTech IMC
(http://biotech.indymedia.org/), and a Climate IMC
(http://www.climateimc.org/). If I remember correctly, the new-imc
working group put together a special list of questions for
topic-based IMCs, though I can't find them right now.
I was on the new-imc working group forever yet I forget whether the
Biotech IMC ended up going through the whole process. Right now the
Climate IMC is doing it, even though they have technically been up
and running for a while. Here's information about them, as well as
their new-imc information: http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/ImcClimateNew.
So, when the time comes, this is something we should do. And the
more of us who comment on Nick's sketches and join the implentation
team, the faster that time will come!
Jay
