I wonder if it'd be useful to get a small group of people to write up a
short manifesto calling on activists and activist organizations to Share
as much information as possible?

I'm thinking a brief 1-3 page manifesto, and then collecting lots of
signatures, comments, and organizational endorsements.

The focus could either narrowly target groups with websites (and
particularly groups with networking websites), or it could be more broad
and try encourage sharing everywhere.

Framing terms - radical democracy, openess, sharing, transparency.

A Couple Goals
1) Growing the Movement vs Growing your niche (solution: growing the
movements grows your organization)
2) Unleashing the Creativity and Power of Millions of (part-time) activists
3) Increasing the Skills Level

What Should be Open
-all your publications (books, videos, leaflets, images, etc)
-all your programming code that you produce (or hired consultants to
produce)
-internal organizational documents that would be of use (ex. fundraising
letter, strategic plan, budget)

This fits with the IMC vision as IMC sites are already sharing. And it
fits with our goal of including networking in a future imc-alternatives
site. As more and more activist networking sites appear, we need to
mobilize thousands of grassroots activists to take a strong stance in
favor of sharing data - otherwise organizations won't make it a
priority. In the ideal future, organizations will prioritize sharing
and integrate it into their websites from day one.

Is this a good idea? If it is, I could start an off-the-list group of
people who'd work on it.

Aaron
