The full title is 'alternatives to corporate globalization'. At the risk of
starting a complex debate on political tactics, here is it's raison d'etre.
Basically, much of what Indymedia reports on consists of attacks against the
establishment, yet this is only half of what the movement is doing. We are also
busy building a new society in the shell of the old. Indymedia itself is a
practical example of this. Other local examples would be Oblong and 128. These
are the sorts of direct action that the Alternatives IMC will provide space for.
We also intend to include a knowledge-base, where people can document their
knowledge gained from practice working on projects, activist networking features
that will facilitate mutual support between people working on similar projects
or projects in the same local area that could complement each other.

The collective working on Alternatives IMC would like to post our stories to our
local IMC site, so the stories are available to readers interested in that
locality. The Alternatives IMC site (once it's up), would then syndicate all the
alternatives stories from the local IMCs. To do this, we need a category to tag
all the alternatives stories as they appear on the site.

For the syndication to work, the category needs the same name on every site. The
proposal is that the category name is the same name that has been chosen by
consensus of the Alternatives IMC collective for our site.
