I can help with a Drupal site, my energy is already divided between a
lot of projects so I haven't really stepped up on this one, but it
shouldn't be hard to get something up and running. The biggest problem
has been a lack of agreement on how to do it and vision, from what I've
seen from the sidelines. Anyways, the real tricky part is coordinating
such stuff simply over the web. I think Drupal might be the easiest for
the most people to be able to play with but we should just do a simple
6.0 core site with no modules and just try to do it similar to a blog to
give the content producers a place to start writing and develop anything
further off when/if it becomes a hit.

In order to do this we simply would need a few parameters outlined.
Create a taxonomy/categories for content.

From my understanding the site would consist of alternatives to
capitalism, focusing on diy and alternative economics, and whatever
else. I'd be done and have tried to start similar sites in the past, but
I think the Indymedia network would be an optimal place for this to launch.

Sample Categories: (no need to prefix with alternative before each since
that is implicit)

Transportation
Food
Health
Culture
Economics
Politics

Then for content types we could just start out with articles and let
people write.

If this is going to be open publishing we will need to implement
something along the lines of peer moderation etc, but it could be done
by a few moderators at first.

Captcha would probably also be essential for preventing spambots from
taking it over.

I'll help with it when I can, your write Jay let's get this site up,
even if it isn't perfect.
