[Imc-alternatives] okay, what do we have to do to get this to happen?

Hi Robbt, Dave and all,

Thanks for the replies. I didn't mean to sound impatient and
alarmist in my last e-mail...! (oh, wait. I did.)

Here is my thought. I would love to see the alternatives project be
100% committed to building an extraordinary web site that fits
completely into the overall renewed Indymedia network
architecture. That means going with the CakePHP/Joomla proposal
that's being discussed over at imc-cms...but, in the meantime -- and
this may be a matter of weeks, or a few months, until the new
Indymedia tech vision has been realized -- I suggest we get something
up and running in Drupal, a la Dave's "can get the site up in a day"
suggestion above, and Robbt's "core with no modules/blog-like"
suggestion below. We could apply as much of Nick's design as
possible, focus on the news-gathering aspect and really just have
something to start the buzz going.

It may look crummy. It will be clunky. But it could give us a place
to start consolidating content, and a bit of an energy boost as well.

Imc-cms techs, having a temporary drupal site for the alternatives
project to work on will also get me off your backs for a while.
Meaning, I personally won't feel the need to push, prod and pester
you, leaving techies to build the new indy infrastructure in
virtually Jay-free zone. :)))

Seriously, I want to re-confirm that what I'm proposing is a
temporary Drupal site that will get the ball rolling, while we're
still simulaneously working together on creating a real site that
works completely within the new Indymedia architecture. I'd started
learning Drupal so I could stop being one of those annoying "techies
-- build this!" people and start to actually contribute, but now I'm
considering trying to learn Joomla too, or instead, to mesh with
imc-tech's efforts. So, this is not an "either/or" proposal, just
something that will get us from point A to point B.

Reactions?

(p.s. writing a response to taxonomy questions in a different e-mail)
