Hi All
I offer some useful websites below on Climate Change and Peak Oil and
Electric Vehicles.
http://www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/presskit.pdf in
particular is useful on electric cars.
The recent movie shown at the film festivals called *'Who Killed The
Electric Car' *was particularly enlightening. This pdf is really
brilliant and quite helpful for considerations of the existence private
transport not so constrained by carbon fossil fuels. I'm very keen on
audio programmes on electric vehicles and if others have those would be
grateful to know of them.
When 'Who Killed The Electric Car' comes out on DVD it is well worth a
look at for anyone who hasn't seen it..Very nice electric cars that
people were lining up to buy after trying them out and finding that they
were brilliant, were withdrawn and destroyed [crushed ], quite clearly
because they threatened oil profiteering. The film does a very good job
in providing evidence for that. An important initiative towards the mass
production of a much more ecologically friendly private vehicle has been
scuttled on certain major moves, and the process towards that delayed
with certain major initiatives - but knowing that a lot of technology
as well and truly come of age is encouraging at certain levels. It's
not technological constraint but vested interest greed that has delayed
what is important - the coming of the age of the electric car. They had
this brilliant electric vehicle that you plug in and that also had solar
panels. It looked great. Nice effective and efficient cars with no
petrol dependency on an on going basis. People who test drove the cars
that were outlined on the film were quite excited with them The film
was directed by *Chris Paine *and quite incredible. It shows many models
of electric vehicle that functioned very well being scrapped, and
protests from the designers of the vehicles and from celebrity figures
and from general members of the public who were crying foul - almost
enough to be arrested. Imagine if the designers of them had been... (
I've included reference to an audio talk given by Chris Paine below.)
For anyone in Wellington, there is a *film* at the *Film Archive* on
Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of August at 7pm each night on
*Peak Oil* ( - looking at how Cuba has managed to cope with not having
had plentiful supplies of oil with the situation there.)
