Kia ora koutou,
Steve from BeyondMT has offered us the use of some
resources
to experiment with a wireless LAN (computer network) in the
Railways building. This would potentially allow us to set
up internet-connected Indymedia computers in the Commons
space for media activist use. The Station radio project for
example would really benefit from having internet access to
download and upload audio material.
Steve can get us wireless hardware at cost and offers the
use of his internet access for experimental purposes. In
the longer term we could look at the very reasonable deals
being offered by Ezysurf.co.nz (256kbps connection for $65
per month FLAT RATE!) which would allow us to do things
like the radio upload/ downloads and dropping open source
software for distribution.
With the combined effort and skills of myself, Steve, Aaron,
Webclaw (does anyone know his email?) and maybe the WLUG if
we need help wrangling Linux we should be able to set up a
very useful co-operative network.
Steve is going to be away over the next couple of weeks and
I will be away in Sept and much of Oct. But
it would be great to see what we can do if we all muck-in
(just like a barn-raising ;).
RnB,
Strypey
