I can understand the rationale behind your points Kim and Ant, as well as
appreciating that you took time out to view the material.
However, I think you may be a bit harsh - I could make an argument
acknowledging the interest value of Outfoxed, but critiquing it for
semi-commercial slick production values and unadventurous, and at times
boring formal aspects that reassert dominant media values.
There are I think other issues at stake such as supporting and giving space
to the Newsreal initiative, as an Oceania Indymedia project - surely one or
two items could be screened? It wouldn't be too much to anticipate that
many people wouldn't have seen footage from Woomera or the Uranium mine
protests.
Similarly with the 7 minute Timor L'este piece, it was made by a Taranaki
based social justice activist with a long term involvement with East Timor,
and productive enthusiasm for media making. Apart from the compelling reason
for supporting local production and issues close to this place, if it's good
enough for alternative media channels in New York, I would expect it's good
enough to screen here.
Some thoughts,
