[imc-auckland-video] Proposal to pay for transcribing

Hi, at the risk of this being an idea that gets shot down, I still need
to put the idea forward as one way of trying to make some advances on
getting our transcribing done in due time.

The idea is pay people $20 a tape as a gesture of thanks for the amount
of time as an incentive to get through the many tapes that we have.

I'm not sure how we would want this to apply to those of us who have
already been issued with tapes. People can choose to forfeit the $20 as
a donation to Indymedia.
I know this also raises issues about what that means if we pay some
"thank you" money for some jobs and not others and whether this fits in
with Indymedia ethos. We can discuss that too but I see this as a very
distinct definable job that can be measured. It does take about one hour
to transcribe ten minutes.

I calculate that we have about 20 tapes that still need transcribing. At
$20 each that is $400 - don't want to ask for that much, perhaps half
that to fund the transcribing of about ten tapes. It would cost
megabucks if we had it done professionally.

I need to know if people are happy for me to put this proposal to the
wider Indymedia group for dissent by a certain date.

Especially if we are really going to get this done by the end of the
year. Chloe, is there any money in the $1,000 grant left that could be
put towards this?

It seems to me we have bi-monthly fundraisers which a lot of us put time
and effort into organising but we aren't exactly using the collected
funds for very much except venue hire, our server internet charges and a
few nominal items.

It would be nice if the wider Indymedia account could contribute to the
doco if we asked.

Feedback from others sought, thanks, Kim
