HI - I did the transcribe for the Chris Trotter transcribe interview
last - thanks Sandra for starting it off. It was about 50 mins - took
about 5 hours (with lots of tea breaks!) and I just went for it from 7pm
to 12pm and got it done in one hit.
It's good if your computer and TV are real close and headphones help to
not annoy flatmates.
I just type as fast as I can everything I can.
I don't worry about spelling mistakes and I make lots of abbreviations
because I know I can go back and fix them all up when the tape has
stopped.
Basically I just try to write as much as I can in one hit as oppossed to
stopping and starting the tape a lot and then I play the tape back and
listen and just fill in the words or lines that I missed the first time
around.
For the first main transcribe, I don't watch the TV screen (if it's a
straight interview)- I just watch my keyboard and typing and do it from
sound.
I don't worry about the timecoding the first time around - I go back and
put that in later when I watch it again - as opposed to the first time
when I'm mainly listening to it.
I find this method works well for me for getting it done as quickly as
possible.
Hope these tips help, Kim
