Alright, things are coming together on the broadcasting (back)end. But
to make this really good I need all of your help. Go here:
http://radio.indymedia.org
and notice the No RNC preview stream is at the top of the list! If you
are impatient, go straight to the stream:
http://liveradio.indymedia.org:8002/rnc2004.ogg.m3u
I think it's officially stable but I'm just one person. I need all of
you to take an active role in testing it on the end-user level. From
start to finish. Things to be critical of:
1) How easy/hard was it to connect? Did it blow your technological
capacity or did you rock that new steez like no other?
2) What player are you using and how does it present the stream
information? Does it update with each song? Is it obvious what you are
listening to from the text your player shows you?
3) Connection stability. Even if you're not listening to it, keep your
player connected and running as you work and check periodically to see
if it has droped. It should never drop completely and if it does write
down what time and what player you are using.
4) Sound quality. Are the volume levels even? Does it sound
professional or does it sound pre-school?
As for mp3 streams, I'm not going to take any responsibility for those
myself. To make things simple there will be one point of entry, which
is the URL above. All transcoding to mp3 will have to be done by
individuals who want to provide that format. I can suggest tools to do
so. I can offer a second mount point on berkman for an mp3 stream but
the transcoding can't happen there for a number of reasons.
Happy bug hunting!
