Feature for feature, I'd say CEPro probably blows audacity out the water,
HOWEVER: Audacity works on linux, mac and (importantly for low budget
stuff) low end OS9 macs. The windoze version also is developing VST plugin
support, so theres a big range of 'outboard' compression ,gating and eq
options available there for cleaning up mixes. I dont see any reason to
use CEPro at all. For another option theres also something called Krystal,
which I *think* is FOSS software too. http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/

It certainly has a flashy interface.
