we use the irivers for recording lots of different types of audio:
lectures/speakers, interviews, protest noises, etc. you can control the input
level. it is not an incredibly high-end interface (one potential problem is
that there are no VU meters, so you can:t really tell if the level is peaking).
and the headphone output monitor is not really loud enough for accurate
monitoring, but this can be somewhat dealt with if you get a set of headphones
with an extra volume control/amplifier on them. and this might go without
saying, but it:s definitely worth it to splurge on a high quality mic or mics
for this or any system you are thinking about getting.  there are different
mics that are better for interviewing, better for getting a broader range of
audio, etc. i don:t know much about mics though.
