Hello
I just subscribed everyone who was on jacquie's CC list to this list to
this list. Many of us thought this would be a good forum for discussing
various projects in Baghdad, the one I am most familiar with is a newspaper
that is due out any day I believe. This is an IMC list - because it is
convenient and because many of us believe that there is interest in Baghdad
in creating an IMC in the future. This list is not for pushing an IMC on
Iraqis obviously.
I'm sure this list will be several things to many people but I hope in the
short term we can use it to figure out how those of us outside Iraq can
best help those in Iraq to establish some serious independent media (though
I'm not personally against silly independent media).
If you are not interested in this list, you can unsubscribe via the
listinfo page at

or you can email me (the current administrator).
You can also use this link to change your subscription option to digest
format so you get one email instead of 10 if the traffic gets heavy.

The only reason I am the admin is because I applied for the list first ...
I am willing to stay on as email admin if there are no objections - it
would be great if someone else or 2 others volunteered to help with it - it
is very little work.
As of now, anyone who posts to the address has their posts sent to the
group. If spam becomes a problem, we can set it so only list members can
post (others must be approved by an admin).
All posts sent to this list will be archived - so please don't send any
personal information unless you don't care =)
the archive is available at:

Jacquie also set up a wiki (online collaborative tool) for us to use at
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcBaghdad
For those of us interested in being on the list, it might be good to send a
brief introduction.
My name is christopher mitchell, I am from minnesota, usa - work in a used
bookstore. I have involved in IMC organizing for two years - mainly as a
geek/tech. I help to admin a server that runs several sites and will soon
host a site for the newspaper that Ramzi is working on. I have traveled in
Jordan, Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon to study peace and conflict for a
four-month program 3 months ago and have long been interested in U.S. -
Iraq policy. I have studied it for several years and wrote my honors
thesis on the subject 2 years ago.
Sadly, I do not speak Arabic, but I hope to learn. That is my brief intro -
I hope that I have not turned anyone off with the above message - or
assumed too much. Take what I have said with a grain of salt, as I
recognize my place as a _little_ cog in this machine.
cheers
