Hi All,
RE: Print / website issues - yes, there are two seperate issues here. My
intention is to assist as far as possible with the web site, as this is
something I can offer immediately and freely, with no costs involved.
Obviously the creation & distribution of a print media on the ground is
important, and of more relevance to iraqi people. I see the website being
initially a means of communication with the outside world, but it is up the
the group how they choose to use it.
I have today created a new site using Chris's suggestion of alterniative
indymedia software, dadaIMC.
http://baghdadimc.dyndns.org
This does appear to support both english & arabic - I have copied an article
from aljazeera.net which seems to work, although I cannot read the article
myself!
Help from anyone in Bristol / UK with arabic translations would be much
appreciated. Potentialy people in the UK can do translations from arabic if
we have the skills. This could be posted as a comment to the original
article.
Ramzi: Yes, you can post anything you like to the site. Do you understand the
concept of indymedia / open publishing - it means ANYONE can post to the
site, and the job of the IMC team becomes to moderate / remove unwanted
articles. At least that is what we do in bristol, and we try to remove as
little as possible. Also, articles are hidden and not removed.
This new software dadaIMC has lots of customisation options. It would be good
to have your input as much as possible, but it sounds like you are very busy!
I will do what I can, and there is lots of support for you all from bristol!
Web address: As you can see, I am currently using dyndns which is a free
service, probably based in the US. If there is a consensus to proceed with
the site, then I will make the request for baghdad.indymedia.org [have I got
that right?] but I can't say how long this will take.
Alternatively we could resister a uk domain name, or if anyone knows how, we
could try to get an iraq domain name, if such a thing exists. If this is
going out to CNN, then we want it set up properly. I'll confirm this in the
next few days.
