I agree with going ahead and setting up the dot.com or would a dot.net be better (or org as it is nonprofit for now ?? and would be as an IMC)which would entail, then, what I think Charles at EPIC and Nuclear Policy Institute suggested -- which was starting a site already... sort of under the buddy system -- that we here will post stuff up to a site from there or they there, whoever can manage it, will do that with support from outside. I will be happy to do some editing for it on this end -- pick a section, any section -- and as far as the IMC process goes, IMC Baghad is far from in that as of yet -- but there is no saying that starting a newspaper and website don't put it on that path, no?

I had a check in the imc finance archive
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/imc-finance/
and no formal request for funds seems to have been
made.

I suggest that in the interests of getting some money
on the way quickly we submit a proposal to fund the
equipment needs from the global fund, but excluding
the running and salary costs.

It's not that I don't appriciate the situation, and
the importance of salaries in such a circumstance.
I just think the proposal would go through quicker
this way, as these imc processes can take ages at the
best of times, and the need seems to be urgent...

We could always make a second proposal later.

BUDGET:
EQUIPMENT NEEDS - 5 computers w/Arabic language
support & keyboards - 2 printers - a Xerox machine - a
fax machine (once phone lines are back up) - 2 phone
lines - a dedicated internet line (satellite modems to
serve until phones are up) - 2 digital cameras - 2
video cameras (for web reports) - 2 file cabinets - 5
desks/chairs - a sofa & lounge chairs - an air
conditioner - a fridge - a generator (even when power
comes up, it's likely not going to be available at all
times)

Could someone who has contacts in Iraq find out the
costs for the most urgent items?

I was thinking probably about $5000

Any comments/suggestions gratefully recieved

Cheers
Sam
