Hi everyone,

[Sorry I'm a bit late on the uptake for this, the UCIMC has had an
incredibly trying week (we were shut down by the city of Urbana, Illinois
for fire code violations) and I have been coordinating our crisis
management team for the past 5 days.  Recently we've managed to negotiate
keeping most of our space open, but given that almost half of our
community center is now closed off to the public, we need to look for a
new space to house the organization.  So now we have to move our capital
campaign (to buy a building) into high gear.  More information is

On to more relevant news...

Hearing nothing but support for the idea of having the UCIMC fiscally
sponsor the IMC-Baghdad project, and given that the Sunday deadline for
raising concerns has passed.  I will move forward with implementing the
sponsorship.  Below is some relevant information for doing fundraising:

Checks should be made out to "UCIMC" and have "IMC-Baghdad" in their memo
line.  Checks can be sent to:

There are two options for making donations on-line:

The UCIMC has charged a 5% fiscal sponsorship fee for all IMCs we've
previously sponsored and I'm operating under the assumption that this is
fine for everyone.  Also, if we could "elect" someone who can sign a
fiscal sponsorship contract as a liaison from the project, I can send them
the paperwork and get everything fully set up fairly quickly.

I should have IMC-Baghdad set up in our accounting software by tomorrow
evening.  So let's start raising some funding!

ORIGINAL PROPOSAL:

I'd like to set a SUNDAY May 11, 2003 (Noon GMT) deadline for accepting
fiscal sponsorship from the UCIMC.  If people have concerns with moving
forward on this, please raise them now (likewise, of you support the idea,
feel free to make your opinion known).

If anyone disagrees with this process, let us know, but I would like to
have us nail down a funding and financial nexus for this project as soon
as possible (and preferrably before the start of the next business week).

We have some great energy and momentum, so lets keep this moving forward.
