IMC Beirut Meeting: WEDNESDAY AUGUST 3rd, 2005
----> In Attendance: Saseen, Sawsan, Sarah, Shublaq & Stefan

{NOTE - The NEXT IMC Beirut meeting will take place on WEDNESDAY August
10th, 6pm, @ either Whalimah restaurant in Hamra and if logistics are
arranged for the IMC location at El-Leqaa then at our new office....! ALSO
there will be a second graphic design training from Marc of Helem prior to
the next meeting 5pm.}

1) IMC Print:

LAYOUT: Training for layout design of the upcoming IMC newspaper took
place this last week. Afamia arranged for Marc from Helem to provide the
training on "Adobe InDesign".... Shublaq, Afamia, Stefan and Raida were in
attendance for the training.

Afamia's computer will be the central point for layout of the paper. It
was agreed that prior to the next training some basic layout for the paper
will be finished, in order to have specific questions for Marc at the next
training. The second training prior to the next meeting 5pm @ the meeting
location....

CONTENT: Shublaq will be following-up with people on getting their
articles finished for publication. Below I have listed all the completed,
in-progress and potential articles for publication in the IMC Beirut
paper....

-> Editorial from IMC Beirut, which explains the basis for publishing a
print issue and also the vision / mandate of IMC Beirut. Shublaq is
writing a draft which will be sent to the list for comment.

-> PFLP interview recorded in Ein el-Hilweh - Aber & Afamia have
transcribed and edited the interview into an article for publication.

-> Raida wrote an article on various ongoing political campaigns to
struggle for civil-liberties for Palestinian refugees is finished.

-> Bilal a journalist from Al-Nahar is willing to provide an article for
publication, Afamia is following-up with Bilal for the article.

-> Stefan wrote an article concerning the story of Ahmed Abdel Majeed,
which is ready for publication. Saseen is willing to transcribe the
article into Arabic and Shublaq is willing to edit. The article is online

-> DFLP interview recorded in Ein el-Hilweh is currently being transcribed
by Shublaq, who will then summarize and edit the text.

-> Bernard and independent journalist from France has written an article,
which outlines a recent interview done with Labour Minister Trad Hamadeh
concerning the Administrative Order, which if implemented will allow
Palestinians to apply for foreign work-permits to work in hard labour.

-> Ahmed Abdel Majeed from Ein el-Hilweh is willing to write an article on
the economic effects / impacts which the inability for the right to work
has on Palestinians in the camps.

-> Khloud a Palestinian refugee from Burj el-Barajneh is willing to write
an article concerning the perspectives of Palestinians in the camps on
ongoing political changes in Lebanon.... Stefan is following-up.

-> Saseen is writing an article on Palestinian refugees and their future
in the context of ongoing political changes in Lebanon, focusing
specifically on the potential settlement of refugees in Lebanon and Abu
Mazen's recent visit.

-> Photo essay taken at Wavel camp, on a recent visit with Sawsan & Stefan
took to the camp. Sawsan will choose photos and also provide Arabic
write-up's for the photos.

-> Sawsan will be doing short interviews with Lebanese on the street to
get their perspectives on the current conditions of Palestinians and the
potential change to law which will allow refugees to work in certain
professions. This will be broken down into a short write-up / article in
Arabic.

-> Publication of the full text of the Administrative Order.

COST: It was agreeded upon that the paper will be free, however that
people receiving the paper will be encouraged to donate to IMC Beirut.

PRINTING: Afamia is in contact with Helem to follow-up on potential
printing contacts, which they have.


2) IMC Beirut Location: Shublaq and Afamia are following-up with el-Leqaa
to get the keys to the location. If possible there will be work done on
the space this coming weekend and work to arrange the space will take
place this coming weekend.... If basic set-up takes place over the
weekend, this coming weeks meeting will take place at the location.


3) IMC Beirut Group Dynamics / Process:

Saseen suggested a discussion point in the future regarding the expulsion
of an IMC member. This discussion would reflect broader discussions of
group process and dynamics. There is a floating suggestion that the
visioning meeting should take place as part of a visioning meeting or a
retreat of IMC Beirut....


4) Next Meeting:

The meeting will take place on WEDNESDAY August 10th, 6pm, @ either
