burn down the salzburg festival house?

on a serious note, i had forgotten all about it, but just noticed while listening that the salzburger festspiele commissioned glass to produce a symphony (no. 5: requiem, bardo, nirmananakaya) in which the composer has eric owens (baritone) and albert dohmen (bass-baritone) sing verses from the koran. 

this is just as blasphemous, just as much a vilification of islam, just as much a provocation as the danish cartoons, perhaps even more so because according to muslim tradition it is insulting the koran itself and not just the prophet, who is a mere mortal, whereas the koran is the word of god. 

hope nobody notices ;-)

btw: this is actually an opera, it's truly wonderful, my wife and i heard it being performed by glass in austria, you can buy it on nonesuch records, new york, 2000; it combines verses sung from the koran, old testament bible, hawaiian kumulipo, zuni creation story, japanese nihongi, bulu creation story, maya popul vuh, persian rumi, benghali vidyapati, sanskrit bhagavad gita, new testament bible, etc. .....
