The purpose of this email is to bring your attention to an independent
media outlet in the U.S. which could use your support right now. The
NewStandard provides daily hard-news coverage of the U.S. TNS covers
issues and events from a journalistic perspective that emphasizes the
public interest; thus, they are truly a rare news outlet in the U.S.
which is not corporate and which truly reports from the perspective of
those directly affected by government policy.

I normally don’t send out fund appeals for other outlets, but TNS was
instrumental in backing my work in Iraq. TNS takes on up and coming
journalists by paying them and supporting them in their work, just as
they did for me in Iraq. If it weren’t for the support I received from
TNS while in Iraq, I would never have been able to provide the stories
from there which I did during the spring of 2004. Stories which covered
the April 2004 siege of Fallujah and widespread torture of Iraqis in
U.S. detention centers.

While they no longer cover the Middle East due to funding and personnel
restraints, they have been doing an outstanding job of covering events
in the U.S.

The TNS collective recently came to a difficult realization: that they
are in big financial trouble. Due to two dismal membership drives, it
seems unlikely they will make it to the end of the year.

So they are taking drastic steps and asking readers to either support
TNS now or let it die. By September 30, if they have not reached their
fundraising goal of $5,000 per month in new recurring donations, TNS
will be forced to close its doors for good.

The NewStandard fills the gap left by the lack of a progressive hard
news service in the U.S. I urge you to support them at this time.

The NewStandard is entirely reader funded in order to remain
uncompromised and allow us to publish the hard-hitting news and
investigative reports that are ignored by other media outlets.

I urge you to visit their fantastic website here:

Then go here to pledge your support:

Thanks in advance for your help.
