I am on this list to help you guys get through any typcial initial IMC hurdles on the way to getting on the cities list. As I remember it, Kristen has pretty much everything you need except your response (which could be like one sentnece long) to the diversity statement. So, I think you could have your form completed relatively quickly. However, outreach is important, and it is possible someone will question you on the size of your collective and the diversity and outreach you have done to incorporate a diverse group.

Peace
Nick

>Hello all,

What's the latest on getting our site put on the Cities list? I know
that we talked about this before, but I don't know what happened to the
idea.

The cities list has been a pretty hit'n'miss thing over the past year. But I
still can't quite git the importance of hanging our hats on the avatar of
the cities list when we can't even get our own stuff together in the
so-called "city" of Carbondale.

The point . . . At one time running dog was designated to lead the
cities-list action. But after the initial effort, the dog realized that
actually meeting the requirements of the list, vague as they may be, was
kinda futile. Yet not from a fatalistic POV, but from a purely practical
stance. So, it was dropped for a little while. Then, if memory serves,
Kristen was to carry the torch. Since then, like before, the issue has sort
of vaporized into the ether.

Meanwhile, the core crew of our group was gradually dwindling. We've lost,
at the very least, three major "players" and have gained none in the
interim.

And yet, questions still arise about getting on the cities' list. How's
come????

The first "city" we should focus on is Southern Illinois and/or/at least
Carbondale. We have had a great deal of success with the Web over the past
couple of years, all things considered, and I don't think NOT being on the
cities list has hampered us to this end.

The only reason I can see of getting on the cities list is if our free
server makes that a priority. If and until then, our energies would be much
better spent trying to harvest what we have in our back yard, so to speak,
rather than stretching-out our already taut resources on a questionable
global status symbol.

Sure, there's puh-lenty of room for debate here, but that's my take on it.
Anybody else?
