(c)  The Peace Coalition and others are planning an action to commemorate
the second anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, March 19.  The next
planning session is Saturday, February 5, 1:00 p.m., at the Longbranch
Coffee House (100 E. Jackson, Carbondale). 
It was proposed and agreed that the Shawnee Green Party would endorse the
event and participate in it.

A group met last Saturday {Jan 22} at the back room of the Longbranch after
our noon vigil.  Informal discussion at the vigil led to talking about a
local response to the 2nd anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq.
We will meet again this SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, FOLLOWING THE VIGIL AT THE
LONGBRANCH (back room) to continue planning.  All interested in
participating are welcome.

Preliminary vision of the action on March 19th:

Use small crosses to represent the nearly 1500 US soldiers killed and the
thousands of Iraqis.  Possibly have pictures, names also.

Recruit volunteers to vigil at many corners, each with a number of crosses
and then each contingent march to the pavilion to plant the crosses and have
a rally.

Several attendees expressed the desire to step up our response, to interfere
with business as usual, with a non-violent CD action to take place around
the time of the anniversary.  It was noted that the week before the 19th is
spring break and would be problematic.
