I would not usually send something like this over this list-serve; however, I am looking for a ride back to C'dale on the 15th or 16th of June (so today or tomorrow). The cheap train tickets are sold out, but I can afford to split gas with someone. So, if you know anyone who is headed down to C'dale in the next day or two, let me know.

General Meeting Notes 6/12/05

Present: Eric, G-dub, Jerry, Cade Bursell

Finances
$244 in the bank ($210 set aside for digital camera and video recorder)
Anna-Gazzette Democrat has been calling my house and we need to get them paid ($170)
And we have other bills due at the end of June.

    We need money!

501(c)3 Status
Cade Bursell mentioned something called the Illinois Lawyers for the Arts which I will look into. We are still under the Chambana 501(c)3 and are working on becoming our own status.

Newspaper
See above. We need to get the Anna-Gazette that money. And then we can start to think about getting the paper up again.

Radio
Hugh Muldoon and company are working on producing a monthly(?) faith-based radio show with local folks. If Hugh wants one of our radio slots, they can have one of ours. I'll Email Hugh about that.

Films
On July 9, Sight Specific Installation, a class tought by Cade Bursell this summer, will be comandeering the space The students are creating a media and object installation at select places in Carbondale - which are the Tuscan Lodge, Town Square, the Bucky Dome, and where the student protested on the SIU campus in the early 70s. It's a really cool project focusing on the community. During that day, there will be tours and histories of the sites. That is basically the project.
On July 9th, the community will have a map to experience the video installations. It will be a working site, a reception will be held at the space. Also the space will be a place where people can pick up their maps, students can store equipment and run their their projectors.

Eric will be working with Bill (aka Anteater) of Unit 9 productions for a collaborative filming. Details as they develop. But it seems like a good opportunity to work with some other local media.

Friday Films seem to be going along fine. If anyone wants to suggest some films, that would be most welcome.

Mike Covell has some material from March 19's Peace Vigil Rally which we will eventually show at the space. More on that later.

Web
Cade asked about video streaming on the site. We would really like to do this but don't have the bandwidth to do this as far as I know. But it would be nice to start looking into other servers that could provide us with the means to video and audio stream.
In other web notes, we need some articles to feature. Everything else seems to be okay. We've had quite a bit of activity on the site though.

Gender issue - We discussed the gender issue as best we could without Ana and with only Greg and I at the meeting. Cade brought some good suggestions including a tech day in which people could come in and learn what they want. Now that we have the office space up'n'running, this is something we should seriously consider this. We also would like to set aside a seperate meeting to discuss gender and tech issues. So let's try to agree on a date for this sometime soon.

Other stuff
We also had a visit from a fellow in really poor health who was asking us to help him get his story out. He's an interesting character. Some of y'all may have seen him around Carbondale riding his adult-sized tricycle with the sign on the back. The man seems to be mentally ill and I don't know if we can help him. He has been through a lot of stuff, which I won't go into right now, but he has also gone around and around with many local doctors, the ACLU, social workers and people who have been kind enough to sympathize but haven't seemed to have been able to help him. I will call Chris Wissman and talk to Jessica Becker to get a better idea of his situation. Then I'll get back with him. If anybody else knows anything about this man, whose name escapes me at the moment (Robert Shaw maybe), please let me know.

Plus, the space looks really great and we could use some help getting it up even better!!

Also, Rachel and I projected the logo onto the door and the website onto the front of the space this week.

thanks all and take care
