    * FRIDAY. "Poetry-Reading Slam." Coffee Talk
Slammers will join Underground Poets, Wild Indians &
Exuberant Others for an Art Walk Poetry Reading-Slam.

and love and love run amok & unbridled sexuality and
longest-day-of-the-year trickster dreaming. Open mic,
as always. Coffee Talk, 71 Court Street, Binghamton,
NY, 8:30 p.m.

    * SATURDAY. 'HIROSHIMA DAY BREAKFAST.' The annual
Hiroshima Day breakfast will be held at the First
Congregational Church, 30 Main St., Binghamton at 8:00
AM. Following the breakfast, (9am?) participants will
walk (or drive) to Peace Park (Riverside Drive), at
the joining of the two rivers. There will be peaceful
music and an open microphone. Please try to join us as
we remember our Native Americans at the encampment,
the start off point, of the search and destroy mission
of Washington's troops against the Iroquois -- August,
1779. There will be a free-will offering. Reservations
are requested. To make one, call PAT DONOHUE AT
722-0549 ASAP.

    * SUNDAY. The Independent Media Center will be
offering its first FREE journalism seminar today from
10 AM - 1 PM, at the offices of Citizen Action, 33
West State Street, Suite 201, Binghamton, NY.
Experienced journalists will teach basic news
reporting and writing. Enrollment is limited to 12
people. Last minute inquiries can be directed to E.

    * MONDAY. "Peace Vigil," from 4:30 -5:30 in front
of the Federal Courthouse, Henry St. Binghamton.
Repeats weekly. Extra signs are available, just bring
a warm body, a strong heart.

    * TUESDAY. "First Open General Meeting of St
Patrick's Four Support Team." Christ Episcopal Church,
across from the Lost Dog Cafe, 7 PM. The federal trial
of the St. Patrick's Four begins September 19. We will
need many local volunteers to handle food, logistics,
transport, and child care. A similar Support Team is
forming in Ithaca, and we will coordinate our actions
to ensure the trial and Citizens' Tribunal run
smoothly and effectively. Local residents outraged by
the policies of this administration have an
incredible, rare opportunity to stand unified and
determined with four principled parents to express our
opposition to the aggression, intimidation, and
deception of this administration. The first and only
federal trial of war resisters in the nation is HERE
in our hometown, and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please join
us, and help make this trial and tribunal a historic
event.

    * WEDNESDAY.
o FILM: "End of Suburbia." This
award-winning film explores the American Way of Life
and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical
era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to
outstrip supply, and fuel prices rise to new market
highs forcing many citizens and businesses to the edge
of financial collapse. Sponsored by the NEPA
Alternative Energy Alliance, the Green Party of
Susquehanna County, and Binghamton Indymedia. Montrose
Theater, 18 Public Avenue, Montrose (PA), 7 PM.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. For
more information on the film, please see
http://www.endofsuburbia.com
o General Meeting for "Sacred Spaces: Zones
of Peace" workgroup. To speak with the coordinator,
please contact Rachel Galper at 722-9135, or email her
at 'rachel1galper at yahoo.com'. For full desciption of
this incredible project, please see:

    * THIS WEEK'S TWO-MINUTE ACTION ALERT. Five
members of the Binghamton City Council expressed great
political courage earlier this week to pass the
"Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home" resolution,
making Binghamton the FIRST city in NYS to do so. This
week's Press and Sun Bulletin's online poll asks if
residents are in favor or opposed to the resolution.
PLEASE take a moment to express our overwhelming
support by answering the poll, and then passing along
to friends and colleagues. Results will be published
in Wednesday's edition, so let's make sure the numbers
reflect our wide support. The direct link is here:
http://www.pressconnects.com/includes/opinion_poll.html

    * URGENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Binghamton Art
Musicians could really use some volunteers to help set
up and take down tents for tomorrow's art walk, August
5th. The tents need to be set up by 5:15 and taken
down around 9PM. We have one that will take about
30-45 minutes to get it from storage and then set it
up and another that goes up and down very easily -
then the whole procedure will need to be done in
reverse around 9PM. Both of the tents for this art
walk will be set up on State Street, one at each end.
Email Alexis at 'bingartmusic at yahoo.com' if you're
able to help.
