 Congressman Maurice Hinchey has agreed to be a
panelist on the Teach-in on Impeachment.  The reason
this is such good news is that this will make the
event much more balanced and exciting, since Hinchey
opposes impeachment for tactical reasons and the other
panelists do not.  The amended news release below
reflects this change.  If you who are receiving this
message are either with the media or have access to
it, please help promote this historic event by using
this new release:

 
News Release

On Saturday, October 13, a Teach-in on Impeachment
will be held 7 to 9 PM at The Forum Theater in
downtown Binghamton .  The aim is to educate the
public and legislators on the value of impeachment and
to discuss why this device, enshrined in the U.S.
Constitution, is so urgently needed in our present era
of Congressional weakness and presidential arrogance. 
The BC Nuclear Weapons Reduction Campaign, the
non-profit educational arm of Broome County Peace
Action is sponsoring this event.  Attendance is free
and open to the public.  Panelists are:

 

John Nichols - author of The Genius of Impeachment and
frequent contributor to The Nation magazine, recently
interviewed on the PBS Bill Moyers Journal 

 

Elizabeth de la Vega -former federal prosecutor and
nationally acclaimed author of The United States
Versus George Bush et al

 

            Maurice Hinchey - eight term member of the
US Congress, representing Binghamton and New York 's
22nd District

 

Tim Grippen – Executive director of Opportunities for
Broome, former Broome County Executive, and Vietnam
War Veteran

 

The event will be moderated by Jean Quataert ,
professor of History at Binghamton University .  An
extended question and answer period will follow the
presentations.  The two authors will sell and sign
their latest books in the lobby before and after the
program.   Doors open at 6 PM.  Come early to be sure
of a seat.
