Long before the latest economic crisis, most Americans were already aware
that, while their wages failed to keep pace with rising costs, they also had
decreasing access to quality health care, education and other essential
services, this while watching the "War on Terror" undercut basic civil
liberties without making people feel any safer.
What may be less well known is that the policies producing this situation
are having even greater negative impacts abroad. The names given these
policies obscure their aims. Around the world 'economic liberalization' and
post-911 counter-terrorism measures have undermined democracy while
increasing poverty and economic inequality.
