A weekly newsletter of progressive events and outreach in the greater Binghamton area. imc-binghamton-announce at lists.indymedia.org

Welcome to the radiCALENDAR listing of progressive events in the Southern
Tier. And, WELCOME TO THE RAIN making our area very green. We noticed that
the mailing actually didnt go out last week until Wednesday, even though it
was sent out on Monday as usual. There must have been a computer glitch with
the IMC server and we regret any inconvenience to people who post on
radiCALENDAR.org.

To post, go to radicalendar.org choose ADD AN EVENT, choose group:
Binghamton IMC, then post your event. Please look it over before submitting
as editing seems to be difficult. If you have other news email to
binghamtonbridge at gmail.com and we will try to include it. To unsubscribe
reply to this email with the words unsubscribe in the subject line.

Have a good week! See you at First Friday, but alas, the Bridge will not be
available then. We are desperately looking for a layout artist. This is a
paying position.

ORGANIZING TIP FOR THE WEEK: Wearing a sandwich board (or eye catching
costume) is a great way to get your message across, especially at large
gatherings like First Friday. The Veterans for Peace group did this recently
at Bingham HS in their attempt to counter Army recruitment . Code Pink did a
great visual protest around Christmas Time. There will be a street fair on
Sat. May 17th on State St. so that's a good time for tabling and visual
protest.

CHRISTIANITY FOR THE REST OF US"
by Diana Butler Bass
A Book Study
Tuesdays beginning May 6 - ?
10:30 AM to Noon
First UMC, 53 McKinley Ave., Endicott

You are invited to join us for a new discussion based on an
extensive,
three-year study of centrist and progressive churches around the country,
many of which are flourishing without mimicking the mega-church, evangelical

style. This is a hopeful book that includes practical steps that laypeople
are
taking to proclaim an alternative message about an emerging Christianity:
not
about personal salvation, not about getting everybody else saved, or about
the
politics of exclusion and moral purity. The "rest of us" are the
'quiet ones'
you don't hear about in the media, but who are engaging
a"transformational"
Christianity that strives for greater spiritual depth while proactively
engaging
the needs of the world.
You are invited to come and see! Questions? Phone Sue at 748-7434 or
email at sdavis2908 at aol.com.
