Weekly Binghamton Peace & Justice Vigil
This is our tenth year standing for peace on Monday of every week in
front of the Federal Building on Henry Street in downtown Binghamton.
If you haven't been with us for a while, or if you have never joined
us, now would be a great time to come stand with us. You can join for
the whole hour or for just a few minutes. We have a number of nice
clear new signs proclaiming the goals of the World March for Peace and
Nonviolence, as well as a bright colorful World March Banner, in
addition to the wide range of signs we've been bringing for years - or
you can always bring your own sign
Date: Mon Mar 01 2010 - 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: Binghamton Federal Building at the corner of State & Henry
Streets

Presentation: Love, Sex and Human Nature
Science Cabaret presents "Love, Sex and Human Nature" by Justin Garcia
What is "love" and why does it consume us? Research suggests that
aspects of romantic love, although influenced by social and cultural
environments, are hard-wired into the human brain. What happens to us
when we love, kiss, cuddle, and have sex? Ultimately, the brain
appears to process lust (the sex drive), attraction (passionate love),
and attachment (bonding), as distinct yet related systems. But, are
humans the only animal capable of this thing we call love? And if we
love, why do some people have casual sex, commit infidelity, or ever
hurt the ones we care about? This talk will present some of the
scientific answers to these questions and consider why we love.
