Weekly Binghamton Peace & Justice Vigil
This is our tenth year standing for peace on Monday of every week in
front of the Federal Building on Henry Street in downtown Binghamton.
If you haven't been with us for a while, or if you have never joined
us, now would be a great time to come stand with us. You can join for
the whole hour or for just a few minutes. We have a number of nice
clear new signs proclaiming the goals of the World March for Peace and
Nonviolence, as well as a bright colorful World March Banner, in
addition to the wide range of signs we've been bringing for years - or
you can always bring your own sign.
Date: Mon Mar 29 2010 - 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Location: Binghamton Federal Building at the corner of State & Henry
Streets

Poetry, Photos Become Street Art
What meaning does a photo convey? Often the viewer has one idea and
the photographer has a different idea. The Photo–Poetry Workshop has
explored the artistic meaning of photography through the lens of
poetry, a critical form called ekphrasis, a classical Greek practice
of illuminating one art form through another.

Cindy Sheehan's "Peace of the Action" is coming to town Thursday,
April 8, to Saturday, April 10
Cindy Sheehan, Gold Star mother, author and peace activist will be in
our area from Thursday, April 8th to Saturday, April 10th.
Cindy Sheehan is the mother of Spc. Casey Sheehan, who was killed in
Bush's war on terror on 4/04/04. She is the co-founder and President
of Gold Star Families for Peace and the Camp Casey Peace Institute.
She is the author of three books; the most recent is "Peace Mom: a
Mother's Journey through Heartache to Activism".
The message she is bringing is we need an infusion of real hope that
can bring relevant, substantial change. We must quit looking to
politicians for hope. Hope can only come from our communities and
ourselves.
"Peace of the Action" believes that the only way to peace is through
the people. Cindy's "Camp Casey" action in Crawford, Texas galvanized
the country to the injustice of the Iraq War. Hopefully, her upcoming
"Camp Out Now" action on the lawn of the Washington Monument will be
as effective in its message of nonviolence and social justice. Camp
Out Now's stated objective is to: "Clog Washington, DC every week day
through diffuse civil resistance (CR) actions to have the effect of
tampering with 'business as usual' in the Capital of the US."
Date: Thu Apr 08 2010 - 7:00 PM - Fri Apr 09 2010 - 7:00 PM
Location: Binghamton U on 4/8/10 and First Meth. Church, Endicott on
