[Imc-birmingham] Cinema proposal

Hello all,

An idea has occurred to me! Having recently done a screening @ the mr
elephant gig and been involved with drop beats in the past, I have found
putting together a nights (or more) worth of films can be quite a job. Discs
are often with different people or missing and we don't have a current list
of everything we've got. Phunkee did a list of our films a while ago @
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcBirminghamFilms but it is very
outdated now.

My Proposal is we try and get an external hard drive and put
all our films and DVD's in one place. You can buy 500 gb models now for
around £80 and i think (??) all our films included ripped dvd's would fit on
that one drive.

The advantages as I see it:

· It would be easy to create a playlist to just play through at an
event

· Films could be organised into folders based on subject etc - i.e.
bring up all our films on climate change easily.

· We could put in text files with descriptions of films for those
that haven't seen them.

· We could automatically generate a list of our films and put it on
the wiki every so often.

· All the software, codecs etc, needed could be put on there too.

· Space permitting we could use it to store any raw footage we've
recorded too in case we want use it again in the future.

We could also have a go at getting a laptop off of freecycle, coupled with
the hard drive, anyone of us could then easily do a screening.

It would be a lot of work sorting the films at first but would be easy to
add them from then on.

What do people think? Good idea? Bad idea? Our cinema stuff seems to be
the most active part of brum Imc so maybe its worth investing in?

I don't know if we have any money at the moment, I don't mind chipping some
in. Maybe we could do a fundraiser?

Cheers, Liam
