hi
I've been playing with the imobile script and blasterisk so now you
can dial a local number and listen to indymedia content.
So far I've implemented four options.
a) IMC UK top story or breaking news.
b) IMC UK coming events
c) London breaking news and startpage summaries
d) London coming events
[Note: Only the two UK options have currently been made live (at time
of writing)]
To access the system you dial a local number such as 0161-420-8777
then dial 5 for the indymedia menu.
The menu is incorrectly described at present but at this point you
dial 4 for UK top stories, or 5 for UK events
A list of local access numbers can be found on http://
www.blagblagblag.org/BLASTERISK/
(* please avoid the 0800 number when possible as it costs somebody
else when you use it)
If these facilities seem to be useful and worth developing then there
are various issues we should take into consideration when writing
features and events listing to ensure that when spoken, they make as
much sense as they on the screen. One of the main things would be to
avoid phrases like 'click here for more info' - either keeping links
out of the text of the abstract or making them 'transparent' (ie.
links from words in sentences that are there anyway and self
contained). If the abstracts were specifically written with spoken
use in mind then links sections could be excluded from voice
interpretation by using style sheet class tags (such as the existing
class='related').
You might want to check out the pitsburg indymedia blasterisk
options. These allow you to leave audio messages for the IMC, check
voicemail, record phone interviews, listen to news headlines and also
listen to the weekly radio shows produced by the IMC. Very nice!
So, how about it?
ben
p.s. I've you are part of a regional collective, please propose
adding a link to http://mobile.indymedia.org/ on the site nav bar etc.
