Hi
I just cannot get anyone interested in highlighting our new website
www.whosyourneighbour.co.uk <http://www.whosyourneighbour.co.uk/> .
Maybe it's because it is about community, social cohesion, creating a
better environment and so the papers don't want to report that. Or
maybe it's because the website is crap :-( Anyway, I wanted to know if
you guys would feature the site on your network. In fact it would be a
good idea for one of you to list your organisation on the system so
telling the members what you do etc. (join as a community group).
Enclosed is our press release to give you a better idea of what the site
is about.
Thanks
John Henderson
New website allows you to interact with your neighbours
A new UK community web site with a difference has launched.
Who's your neighbour aims to take the online community into the local
neighbourhood by putting neighbours in touch with each other. The site
has been developed by two friends, David White of Ilkley and John
Henderson of York.
Membership is free and allows people to:
* Get to know their local neighbourhood and the people in it
* Join forums to access local opinion on schools, local security,
and general discussion
* Get recommendations for local trades people.
* Get to know like-minded people who live near to you.
* Buy and sell items locally in the car boot sale.
* Check out information on the local schools, sports clubs,
community groups and neighbourhood watch schemes.
* Carry out their own personal surveys on members in their area.
* Host their own groups on the system free of charge, eg. A
walking group.
Online communities have been growing in popularity over the last couple
of years. At the same time local communities are suffering, especially
in the bigger cities. Who's your neighbour aims to harness the success
of social networking to create closer relationships in communities all
over the UK.
The members and what they need or want from the site will dictate how
Who's your neighbour develops over time. The local information
available will also grow naturally through members sharing their
knowledge of the neighbourhood and posting recommendations and thoughts.
Full details are available on the site at www.whosyourneighbour.co.uk
<http://www.whosyourneighbour.co.uk/> or by calling John Henderson on
