£3 waged, £2 unwaged ( no one turned away through lack of fundage )
An ongoing showcase of contemporary filmmakers, finding new forms of
cinema to show resistance to globalisation throughout the world.
BREAKING NEWS: The trial of the Fairford Five - the Iraq War on Trial
case - begins in Bristol today, and Margaret Jones will be coming along
this evening to give us some background to the case and news of the
first day's proceedings.
ALSO: ZYGOSIS : JOHN HEARTFIELD AND THE POLITICAL IMAGE (Gorilla
Tapes-27mins)
Gorilla Tapes were a trio of scratch video artists active during the 1980s.
"Zygosis": the process by which two separate elements are united or
yoked together to form a new whole. Gorilla Tapes attempt to marry video
art and TV documentary, and operate successfully on both of these
levels. Jon Dovey, one of GT's founders now based in Bristol, will be
here to answer questions.
The main feature will be a brand new compilation of micro-documentaries
from UNDERCURRENTS. Celebrating 10 years in the middle of the (direct)
action, Undercurrents News Network (UNN) will be launched in April to
bring you the News you don't see on the News. Now based in South Wales,
this is their first video magazine release for 5 years. Expect the
usual diverse mixture of inspiring stories that you won't see on the BBC
or ITV. Undercurrents co-founder, Paul O'Connor will be here to discuss
their work.
