Greece: The CCTV cameras are all around us

Under a pretext of security measures during the Olympic Games of 1 of July 2004, over 1500 CCTV cameras were implemented all over Greece.  The permit to use them, issued by the Personal Data Protection authorities, was valid until 4 of October 2004.  However, they were controversially renamed to “traffic control cameras” and the permit validity for their use was extended to 24 of May 2005.  The obvious infringement of their use, on an everyday level for social control and repressive attacks, aiming to criminalise any social resistance, now includes elements – integrated in our everyday lives.  The cameras came out of the Olympic grounds and moved onto the streets, where they are actually observing us.  

 

As a reaction, to the irrational surveillance, many electronic eyes were destroyed.

The list of such actions is constantly rising
